Counseling Services is committed to being a resource to our students during this time period. We are still offering services via phone or telehealth (video) sessions to students residing anywhere in Florida. For students residing outside of Florida, we are offering help with referrals and connection to local providers. If you’re interested, please contact the main line at: 305-892-7075.

If you are experiencing an emergency situation after hours, please call: Campus Safety & Security: 305-892-7011 or our 24/7 on call service Protocall Services: 1-888-222-4805

Our goal is to create a safe environment where students are free to explore their concerns as they adjust to the challenges of college life.

Common concerns may include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety, depression and grief

  • Relationships and sexuality

  • Substance use

  • Homesickness and family problems

  • Any current source of distress that may negatively influence the student experience

  • Short-term individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Brief psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families
  • Crisis intervention
  • Psycho-educational support groups
  • Outreach programming
  • Assessment
  • Referral assistance
  • Consultation to concerned faculty, staff and parents

The center is staffed by professionally qualified master's level and licensed clinicians. In addition, we offer internship training for graduate level students.

If you have a preference regarding choice of a counselor, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.

Important Information

We do not provide long-term care or court-ordered treatment or counseling that is involved in litigation. Counseling cannot be mandated or required for students. For counseling to be effective, it must be voluntary. In life-threatening situations, authorities at JWU may require a safety assessment for a student.
