Charlotte Campus

If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.

Faculty and staff are often the first to learn when a student becomes distressed. Consultation is encouraged when there is psychological concern for a student or circumstances create a community concern.

Call Counseling Services directly at 980-598-1710.

Some reasons that faculty and staff seek a consult include:

  • How to best support someone in a time of need; how to encourage someone to seek help
  • Processing and responding to signs of distress
  • Issues collectively impacting a class or group

An important role of Counseling Services is to support members of the campus community who work directly with students.

Consultations are often sought in response to a particular interaction or set of circumstances. A counselor can assist in processing the situation and formulating a plan, if necessary.

Please be aware that counselors protect the confidentiality of other clients in the context of a consult. Generally, that an individual is seen in counseling will be neither confirmed nor denied.

Crisis Intervention

We provide crisis intervention 24 hours a day during the regular academic year. If you become aware of a student making references of harm to self or others, or acting out-of-touch with reality, seek assistance immediately.

Call Health & Counseling Services during these hours:

  • Mon-Fri: 8:30am-4:30pm

You may arrange to have a student “walked” to the clinic. Alternatively, you may call our main line.

After Hours

Call Campus Safety & Security to initiate crisis response, as we provide crisis intervention through an on-call system. After hours include:

  • Evenings
  • Weekends
  • Breaks

Depending on the nature of the crisis, officers may contact the counselor-on-call and/or other emergency service personnel.

Counseling Services provides the campus community programming in a range of formats, including:

  • Presentations
  • Outreach programs
  • Mental health screenings
  • Special events.

A variety of topical areas are available. We may also be able to assist with facilitating a group or activity.

Check with Health & Counseling Services for upcoming programs and availability for your class or event.
