Faculty and staff are often the first to learn when a student becomes distressed. Consultation is encouraged when there is psychological concern for a student or circumstances create a community concern.
Call Counseling Services directly at 980-598-1710.
Some reasons that faculty and staff seek a consult include:
- How to best support someone in a time of need; how to encourage someone to seek help
- Processing and responding to signs of distress
- Issues collectively impacting a class or group
An important role of Counseling Services is to support members of the campus community who work directly with students.
Consultations are often sought in response to a particular interaction or set of circumstances. A counselor can assist in processing the situation and formulating a plan, if necessary.
Please be aware that counselors protect the confidentiality of other clients in the context of a consult. Generally, that an individual is seen in counseling will be neither confirmed nor denied.
We provide crisis intervention 24 hours a day during the regular academic year. If you become aware of a student making references of harm to self or others, or acting out-of-touch with reality, seek assistance immediately.
